When preparing equipment for sterilization, remember, first of all, that it is good practice to take the following precautions when handling and transporting contaminated material:
- Wear rubber gloves of appropriate thickness and a face mask;
- Wash your already gloved hands with an antiseptic detergent;
- Always use an antiseptic detergent;
Use the tray to transport the instruments.
- Never carry them directly in your hand;
- Protect your hands from contact with sharp or pointed parts to avoid the risk of contracting dangerous infections;
- Immediately separate items that should not be sterilized or cannot be supported.
- Wash your hands, still gloved, thoroughly when you have finished working with non-sterile material. All materials and/or instruments to be sterilized must be completely clean and free of any residue (organic/inorganic residues, pieces of paper, cotton/gauze, lime, etc.).
In addition to causing problems during the sterilization process, failure to clean and remove residues can damage instruments and/or the sterilizer.
